Exploring the Inside Passage

Join two fledgling sailors as they navigate the Inside Passage to Alaska. Their log of many summers is a call to others to meet the challenges and joys of this watery wilderness.

My name is Carol McCreary.

I live in Port Townsend, Washington. Jack and I spent 35 years in North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. After retiring to the Pacific Northwest, we took up sailing. With Jack unable to walk following a bicycle crash while training for a triathlon, boats became our path through the wilderness.

Baggywrinkles Blog started as a log of our time on the water, the weather, the sea state, mistakes made, and problems solved as we figured out how to sail. Musings on natural history, marine science, and the joys of summer cruising cruising to Alaska followed.

Updated and relaunched in January 2026, Baggywrinkles Blog includes new sections where I plan to post older writing and thoughts on four decades of saved correspondence.
